SAY GOOD BYE TO EXAM PHOBIA

I read an article (SAY GOOD BYE TO EXAM PHOBIA) in DAWN Newspaper. This article was published in March 20, 2010. This article liked by me very much because some instructions are given related to exam phobia in this article. In this article author told us some advices that help us to how we over come the exam phobia.

SAY GOOD BYE TO EXAM PHOBIA

Advice, when exams arrives, students be come extremely worried and make plans about how to study, how to perform better and get good grades. Some students find exams so difficult that the phobia makes them sick as they simply find themselves unable to cope up with the exam fear.

LOVE YOUR STUDIES

Attitude matters a lot during exams. Students whose attitude towards education is negative usually obtain less or averages marks while students who enjoy studying always do well. That’s why thinking about studies as dull boring hard etc, will only add more difficulties in your learning process. Love your studies the way you love your toys games etc.

PLAY TIME

Parents should always supervise their children’s activities but excessive restrictions during exams should be avoided as it may make children rebellious and dull. They need breaks to refresh themselves so they must have some time to play too. Sometimes due to the over expectations of parents children fall ill before the exams or blank out the exam day. Do not eliminate your relaxing activities such as plying or TV from your daily schedule because these activities are extremely important in revitalizing you as continuous studies and not relaxation can make you exhausted.

 AVOID GETTING STRESSED

Stress is very common during exams but its treatment is in your own hands. One should make a timetable before exams. This is one of the best ways to avoid last minute preparations and getting stressed out. Cramming should always be avoided an understanding and comprehending a topic should be preferred. High performing students always study on regular basis. They study at least two hours a day so that there is no tension of trying to learn a lot during the exam days.

STUDYING FOR EXAMS

Here are some tips that will help you study in a better way for exams.

1 Ask a teacher’s advice on how to study for particular course.

2 Take short breaks while studying. This will release your stress.

3 Get enough sleep and have nutritious food. 4 Plan your study timings.

4 Do exercise or at least walk or play to refresh your body.

5 If you are studying in the evening do not sleep right after you complete you stop studying. First release your stress by walking or listening music or doing anything that interests you and after that go to sleep.

ON THE EXAM DAY

Have a healthy breakfast but avoid oily and heavy things. Do the final revision of the most important topics after breakfast.Get the material organized and recheck you’re stationary (Pen, Pencil, Compass box, etc) in your bag. If you are feeling tension practice deep breathing. Get engaged in positive self-talk. Never revise at the last movement.

IN EXAMINATION HALL

Take the water bottle along with you to take examination hall.

Organized every things you need i.e pen, rural, etc

Plan out your timing during the examination.

Practise deep breathing and focus on something positive.

Do not start your paper right after getting it from the examiner. First read the instructions and then all questions carefully. Then start the paper from the question that you know the best.

AFTER THE EXAMINATION

Do not get stressed after you are done with your paper-whatever is done can not be changed.

Do not include in camprision with others by asking how they answered the questions- it will only add to your worries.

Aim to improve in the next examination if some thing goes to wrong.

So these are some instructions which help us to over come the exam phobia and also help to get good marks/grade in final exam. One thing always remember you are not the only one who has to go through the worries phase of exams¬¬----generations have appeared in the past for examination and generations will be appearing in the future too.

Why do young people take drugs?

There are many reasons young people will take drugs
The reasons
Enjoyment
Despite all the concerns about illicit drug use and the attendant lifestyle by young people, it is probably still the case that the lives of most young people are centred on school, home and employment and that most drug use is restricted to the use of tobacco and alcohol. They may adopt the demeanour, fashion and slang of a particular subculture including the occasional or experimental use of illegal drugs without necessarily adopting the lifestyle.
Even so, the evidence of drug use within youth culture suggests that the experience of substances is often pleasurable rather than negative and damaging. So probably the main reason why young people take drugs is that they enjoy them.
Environment
Many young people live in communities which suffer from multiple deprivations, with high unemployment, low quality housing and where the surrounding infra-structure of local services is fractured and poorly resourced. In such communities drug supply and use often thrive as an alternative economy often controlled by powerful criminal groups. As well as any use that might be associated with the stress and boredom of living in such communities, young people with poor job prospects recognise the financial advantages and the status achievable through the business of small scale supply of drugs.
However, drug use is certainly not restricted to areas of urban deprivation. As the press stories of expulsions from private schools and drug use in rural areas show, illicit drug use is an aspect of our society from top to bottom and in all regions.
Curiosity
Most young people are naturally curious and want to experiment with different experiences. For some, drugs are a good conversation point, they are interesting to talk about and fascinate everyone.
The defence mechanism
Some young people will use drugs specifically to ease the trauma and pain of unsatisfactory relationships and the physical and emotional abuse arising from unhappy home lives. Such young people will often come to the attention of the school. If these problems can be addressed, then if drugs are involved they can become less of a problem.
Natural rebellion
Whether or not part of any particular subset of youth culture, young people like to be exclusive, own something that is personal to they and consciously or unconsciously drug use may act as a means of defiance to provoke adults into a reaction.
Promotion and availability
There is considerable pressure to use legal substances. Alcohol and pain-relieving drugs are regularly advertised on television. The advertising of tobacco products is now banned on television, but recent research from Strathclyde University published by the Cancer Research Campaign concluded that cigarette advertising does encourage young people to start smoking and reinforces the habit among existing smokers.
Despite legislation, children and teenagers have no problems obtaining alcohol and tobacco from any number of retail outlets. Breweries refurbish pubs with young people in mind, bringing in music, games, more sophisticated decor and so on while the general acceptance of these drugs is maintained through sports sponsorship, promotions and other marketing strategies. Obviously, the illicit market is more discreet, but those determined to experiment appear to have little trouble obtaining drugs.
Cost
Value for money is often a factor as to which drug to use. Cannabis sufficient for a few joints would cost about £5, while an LSD trip would be around £2.50. In terms of how long the effects last, this compares very favourably with an average price for a pint of lager of around £2. By the same token, ecstasy of highly variable quality is still selling for up to £7 a tablet and many drug users have been voting with their wallet and turning to cheaper drugs such as LSD.

What is Word or are Words; Definition and explaination

Word is Noun and it refers to a unit of language, consisting of one or more spoken sounds or their written representation that functions as a principal carrier of meaning. Words are composed of one or more morphemes and are either the smallest units susceptible of independent use or consist of two or three such units combined under certain linking conditions, as with the loss of primary accent that distinguishes blackbird from black bird. Words are usually separated by spaces in writing, and are distinguished phonologically, as by accent, in many languages. Dictionary

It is true what they say about words. Words are like tiny detail of beautiful pictures. Combining to make the picture itself. If you do not understand them, the whole picture becomes a blur, ugly, unknown to you perhaps but if you do understand them the picture becomes crystal clear to you as if you know it already, or as if you understand it was an essay as anything.

Alphabets make up words, words making up sentence, sentences making up paragraphs and finally paragraphs making up a complete story with every little detail present in it. Same is the case with time. Second making up minutes, minutes making up hours, hours making up the whole day, cherishing the memorable and unforgettable time spent.

Role of Media in Contemporary Society

Site tools In the world of today, media has become almost as necessary as food and clothing. It is true that media is playing an outstanding role in strengthening the society; it’s a mirror of the society. Its duty is to inform, educate and entertain the people. They help us to know what’s going on around the world. They put their lives in danger during attacks or natural disasters, just to inform us of the situation. It is partly because of them that awareness is spreading in the society. It is the media who shape our lives. Our lives would be incomplete without the media.

There are three types of media electronic, print and new media. Electronic media in which include T.V, radio and print media in which include newspaper, magazine and journals and third one new media this media consist on internet or computer media.
Today media playing a negative role, media has become a commercialized sector eying only for news that is hot and sells. Instead of giving important information and educative programmers, all that one gets on television is sensational depiction of all news stories, their only goal being gaining television rating points.

Every issue is hyped for a day or two, so much so that you switch to any channel, they all will be flashing the same story but then when the heat is over there is no following of the case. The news then jostles for space with other stories that are carrying the heat then. In spite we all cannot think of a world without television sets, media has become so much a part of us that to recognize its impact, we need to step back and consciously think about how they shape our lives and what they are saying.
The media affects people’s perspective not only through television, but also through radio and newspapers. In this way, even many messages, with which we cannot agree, inevitably coming to us from diverse constellations of media... They can even be turned to our benefit by whetting our understanding and articulation of what we believe, today news channels and even some newspapers is mouthpiece of some political parties. Media is the watch dog of the political democracy. If it plays its role honestly, it will be a great force in building the nation.

What is Extensive reading, Purposes, Characteristics, Benefits and Why do ER?

Definition of Extensive reading
Extensive Reading usually means reading a lot of self-selected easy, interesting texts, and doing few or no exercises afterwards.
Extensive reading is order to gain a general understanding of what is read. It is intended to develop good reading habits, to build up knowledge of vocabulary and structure, and to encourage a liking for reading. E.g. any interested books, novels, magazines and newspaper reading.
Purposes of Extensive Reading
The purposes of reading are usually related to pleasure, information and general understanding. The purposes are determined by the nature of the material and the interests of the student. Typically ER involves reading massive amounts of very simple material so that the learner can read smoothly, confidently and pleasurably.
Another aspect of ER is that the learner should be reading a wide variety of texts such as novels, mystery, poems etc.
Characteristics of Extensive Reading
Students read as much as possible, perhaps in and definitely out of the classroom.
A variety of materials on a wide range of topics is available so as to encourage reading for different reasons and in different ways.
Students select what they want to read and have the freedom to stop reading material that fails to interest them.
Reading is individual and silent, at the student's own pace, and, outside class, done when and where the student chooses.
Reading speed is usually faster rather than slower as students read books and other material they find easily understandable.
Benefits of Extensive Reading
ER helps develop general, world knowledge.
Most, students have a rather limited experience and knowledge of the world they inhabit both cognitively and affectively. ER opens windows on the world seen through different eyes. This educational function of ER cannot be emphasized enough. Learn new vocabulary and review old vocabulary
It can motivate learners to read
Reading material selected for extensive reading programs should address students' needs, tastes and interests, so as to energize and motivate them to read the books.
ER helps improve writing.
There is a well-established link between reading and writing. Basically, the more we read, the better we write. Commonsense would indicate that as we meet more language, more often, through reading, our language acquisition mechanism is primed to produce it in writing or speech when it is needed. Extensive reading is effective means of fostering improvements in students writing
It helps to build confidence with extended texts
Classroom reading work has traditionally focused on the exploitation of shorts texts, either for presenting lexical and grammatical points or for providing students with limited practice in various reading skills and strategies. However, a large number of students in the world require reading for academic purposes, and therefore need training in study skills and strategies for reading longer texts and books. Extensive reading is developing students’ confidence and ability in facing these longer texts.
What is the difference between intensive and extensive reading?
Intensive reading - you read with concentration and great care in order to understand exactly the meaning of what you read.
Extensive reading - you read as many different kinds of books/journals/papers as you can, chiefly for pleasure, and only needing a general understanding of the content.
Reading text books (academic) is Intensive reading.
Reading novels, Magazines, Newspapers is extensive reading.
Extensive reading is also referred as passive reading .Intensive or active.
Why do ER?
To find better and effective ways for students to enjoy reading and learning through English, where they make more and more of the choices and decisions about what they read and how they read; where they are also guided to reflect on their learning and to set specific goals for themselves, and can make intelligent decisions about how to reach those goals. It excellent way to get students into the habit of reading and it contributes to vocabulary acquisition.
