What is Jury System or Panchayati Raj or Panchayat

                                         

This my researches work that I share with you. I conducted a survey in five villages and collected the following data.                                          

The Jury system in Urdu language we can say “Lok Adalt” and in Punjabi language we can say “Panchayat” or “Paria”. Basically Jury system translation of Panchayat that’s derived from Sunsicrit language “Panch means Five and Yat means Assembly where people gather”. In other words we can say Jury system in which five wisdom persons gather on one place and solve the problems with proper solution. When we saw the history of Jury system it is as old as human being or we can say Jury system as old as a village history old. Jury was consisting on five persons some time more than it. Village people elected them with the mutual co-operation. These five persons have more experienced and wisdom then others and they are neutral. Village people respected these persons and there opinion heavily influenced on villagers. The Jury system was not based on the government rules and regulation but it was part of culture and based on cultural norms and values. In Jury system was not only solved the problems but also discussed different issue (Political, Social, Religion) and worked for the welfare of village. When Jury solved any dispute between the parties they gave copies of decision to police station and parties so that decision saved as prove.

Merits of Jury system

In Jury system no need of lawyer and money.
It was cheaper and fast way of justice.
If any reason Jury system was failed to decision but money and time remain save.

Witnesses always with truth.

Demerits of Jury system
The decision of Jury system was based on emotions.
In Jury system there were no rights for women so that they present their problems easily.
People made the jury system like landlord system in which son sate after his father.
They imposed their decision on poor people.

The Jury system finished when courts system introduced. Secondly people more relied on courts system and got up the trust on Jury system then gradually Jury system finished. Now today age Jury system exist some place of world especially South Asia countries in which Pakistan, India and Nepal included. In Pakistan Jury system exists in province Punjab those areas which far from city and people trust on this system as compare courts. Also Jury system exists in Baluchistan, Sindh and NWFP with the name of Jirga. In current age we need again Jury system because in this way people will get fast and cheaper justice but in this system would not landlord system and also give the rights to women the present their problems with freedom. Secondly in this way Burden will reduce of courts and they more easily concentrate on vital issues.
